Previous year, 2009, has registered a considerable depletion in the content based on entertainment and crime aired on TV News channels in India as compared to last four years. Whereas, time slot for news content focused on political happenings in prime time had risen to double. According to Delhi based Centre for Media Studies (CMS), previous year’s General and state elections provided political news content to capture maximum time slot on news channels. The same trend was prevalent in the year 2005.

During last three years prior to 2009, the main focus of TV news channels was on Sports, Entertainment and Crime. According to this latest study, no major difference has been registered in the news material in previous year except reduction in Crime content. Entertainment, Sports and politics dominated maximum space in last five years.
