On the occasion of inauguration of 16th International Conference & Exhibition on Terrestrial & Satellite Broadcasting organized by Broadcast Engineering Society (India), Information and Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni said, "The Indian media and entertainment industry is growing at a pace of 19 per cent per annum. It is expected to touch Rs 1,157 billion by 2012."

This hike is expected in lieu off steep rise in inflow of advertising revenues for the industry. She also predicted that the television viewership in India will reach at the landmark of 132 million by the year 2012 from the existing viewership of approximately 115 million. Moreover technologies like DTH, IPTV and flexibility in rules and regulations regarding Foreign Direct Investment in the broadcasting industry have also promoted several big players to jump in this sector and start new channels.
