Broadcasters Submit different reservations on FDI issue to TRAI

Key players from broadcasting arena possess different reservations on the matter of increasing Foreign Direct Investment in the sector. These separate opinions were submitted by different broadcasters to Telecom Regulatory Authority of India in respect of its demand regarding the hike in FDI from current 26% to proposed 49% in the broadcasting sector.
74% FDI cap in the Broadcasting Sector was proposed by TRAI earlier. Whereas for the content services, TRAI limited the FDI Cap to 49%. January 30 is the last date for the stakeholders to submit their suggestions and opinions over the recommendations of Press Notes 2 & 4, under which foreign investment in Broadcasting sector India has been talked about.
Bharati Telemedia Limited and NDTV on the one hand stood in favour of the hike in FDI, whereas big players like Benett, Coleman and Co. Ltd. along with Zee Network voted against the move. |
