Discovery Communications, world’s leading non-fiction entertainment company has rolled out two new channels for its viewers in India taking the total number of channels broadcast in the sub-continent to five.

Discovery Networks Asia-Pacific received permission from the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting (I&B) in August 2009 to air three additional channels in India. These included Discovery Science, Discovery Turbo and Discovery HD.

Discovery has now launched Discovery Science and Discovery Turbo, initially on the DTH platform of Tata Sky. The company plans to make the channels available on other analogue and DTH platforms soon.

Discovery Science, a family-oriented channel, will deliver programmes that provide an overview of how the science & technology is affecting the daily lives. The entertainment programmes to be aired on this channel will range from topics such as research and discoveries, human body, astronomy, genetics, exploration, medical advances and space.

Discovery Turbo will be channels that will air shows based on cars, trucks, motorbikes, planes, yachts and trains. The channel will target viewers who are upscale males and are interested to watch programmes on Formula One racing; motor clubs and trends, celebrity motoring profiles and events.

With this Discovery Communications now airs Discovery Channel, Discovery Travel & Living, Animal Planet, Discovery Science and Discovery Turbo. The three existing networks of Discovery in India have a reach of around 116 million cumulative subscribers being offered content in English, Hindi and Tamil.
