NDTV denies plans of shutting down MetroNation

Television News channel, NDTV, has denied any plan of shutting down one of its nine channels, MetroNation. MetroNation which was instituted to deliver news stories based in and around the capital was rumoured to be subjected to an impending shutdown in wake of the present economic crisis.
NDTV has also repudiated rumours of a possible downsizing confirming that there were no chances of partnership with HT Media or the Times of India group in the ownership of MetroNation.
Officials at NDTV claimed that although cost reduction was being concentrated upon, there were no chances of a shutdown and that MetroNation would continue to air fresh content on a daily basis. It has also been reported that a new MetroNation channel for Chennai is being prepared for launch. Rajiv Lulla, CEO, MetroNation, said that 90 employees had already been hired to handle the job of setting up and launching the MetroNation channel in Chennai.
MetroNation Chennai, which is being launched in partnership with the publishers of “The Hindu”, was scheduled for a launch by October 2008 which was later delayed due to the global economic meltdown. Kasturi & Sons Ltd, publishers of “The Hindu” have claimed that although the launch was delayed, there was no indecisiveness regarding the launch of the channel.
On the other hand, MetroNation Delhi has chosen not to make any job cuts so far, continuing with its 165 employees. Programmes are also being produced on a daily basis and fresh content is being served to the viewers every day. |
