The Prasar Bharati has agreed to finalize the course of legal action to be taken against Television Audience Measurement (TAM) for under-reporting of data for Doordarshan.

Jawahar Sircar, CEO, Prasar Bharati in a statement said that the TAM data completely under represents terrestrial and rural reach of Doordarshan, where the public broadcaster has a major strength.

Earlier last month NDTV had filed a case in a New York court against The Nielsen Co and Kantar Media Research, the owners of TAM Media for manipulation of viewership data. NDTV is seeking U.S $810 million for revenue losses and another $580 million in penalty for negligence by the companies.

Doordarshan currently has 37 channels and enjoys a 92% coverage of the country through its terrestrial network.
