Union Information and Broadcasting Minister, Ambika Soni said that the digitization process will help break the monopoly of service providers by giving customers more options choose from.

According to a report in The Economic Times, Ambika Soni termed digitization as  the biggest reform in the broadcasting sector and added that the "must carry, must provide" clause will invite action against operators not showing a particular channel.

Soni added that digitization is going to be a win-win situation for the consumers, providing them choice, variety, local, regional and niche content.

She also said that the government is working ways to provide set top boxes to consumers in installments.

The government has set December 2014 as the deadline for complete digitization of the country.
