Multi system Operator DigiCable Networks (India) won a licence from the Information and Broadcasting Ministry to provide digital cable television services in Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata.
The Ministry has permitted the MSO to operate for a period of ten years beginning 12 June 2012. The license asks DigiCable to abide by the amended Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Act 1995, and further regulations or directives issued by the regulatory authority or the ministry.
In addition, the MSO must have the capacity to carry the minimum number of TV channels specified by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), and avoid carrying any programming deemed in violation of the Cable Television Networks Rules, 1994.
Furthermore, the MSO must comply with the central government's foreign investment guidelines and conditions for the cable television sector.
