The latest Walkman out of Sony’s stable, the X-series is definitely the ultimate portable media player released till date.

Sony came hard on the pricing too. It was charging $300 for the 16GB model and $400 for the 32GB model, same as Apple’s iPod Touch players.

X-series impresses with its OLED touch display, its integration with the Slacker radio-station app, and its built-in noise-cancellation technology, as well as its excellent audio quality.

The creative geode encasing is limited to only the edges, while the rest of the body is sparkly, yet subtle. The builds quality sturdy, and feels good in the hand. Its design makes it slim and pocketable at 3.8 by 2.1 by 0.4 inches.

Sony has made many changes in its designing with the X-series and has come up with tactile hardware playback buttons on the top edge of the player. The X-Series also has a large hold switch on its back--a refreshing change from the tiny, inconveniently-placed switches on most of the modern day portable players.

Its 3-inch touch OLED display makes motions and animations render very smoothly, while colors make it look brilliant and accurate. Its OLED display makes video playback very enjoyable although there might be a debate as to why Sony chose to field in such a small display.

One of the many advantages of OLED technology is that it draws less power from a battery than an LCD screen. Sony says the X-Series has 9 hours of video battery life, 3 hours more than the iPod Touch.

Not only that, the new Walkman’s provides you with everything you need. Slacker, FM Radio, YouTube, Pictures, Music, Video, Noise Cancelling controls, Podcasts, Browser, and Settings are all incorporated in the Walkman’s.

The inbuilt Content Transfer software allows a user to simply drag and drop files from a PC or laptop or iTunes onto the Walkman.

The sound quality of the X-series is excellent and provided with the model justifies Sony’s long dominance in the music industry. Moreover, the noise-cancellation technology enables the headphones to pick up, measure, and eliminate intrusive background noise.
