Mr. Shashi Dharan, President, insightVAS, in an interview with www.mediamughls.com discusses about his new portal dedicated completely to the Value Added Services fraternity.

1. To begin with, what was the inspiration behind launching a website like insightVAS?

Ans. VAS is the only attribute of Telecom services through which operators can fetch maximum revenues in present and coming time. With the advent of 3G, the importance of innovative VAS offerings has grown by many folds. Also, the services were neglected for a long time, but now that Voice and Data services have achieved saturation, VAS has gone vital. Considering this, Bharat Exhibitions launched 1st VAS dedicated event in the year 2004. Since then, we had this idea of an online portal devoted solely to the VAS industry. And finally 2011 being the launching year for 3G (fastest and easiest sources for accessing data), is the most appropriate time for the foray of insightVAS, India’s only and exclusive VAS dedicated portal.

2. How will advertising help MVAS Industry’s growth?

Ans. Mobile advertising is going to be the next buzz word in MVAS industry. Advertisers are yet to fully exploit the complete potential of mobile telephony space. If the operators can sell their ads through various profiles, mobile advertising will emerge as an excellent medium to reach people and penetrate deep into their minds.

3. What are the plans chalked out by your organisation to generate revenue for your website?

Ans. The major chunk of revenue would come from Ad Sales.

4. What are your opinions on the future of VAS Industry in India?

Ans. This is our firm believe that VAS will sustain in the world and in India it will achieve unprecedented heights. VAS will rule the industry in new era of Telephony.

5. What are the marketing strategies of your website and who are your main tie up partners?

Ans. At an initial level we don’t want to disclose our marketing strategies. But gradually in the later stage we will surely associate effective names from the fraternity with us.

6. A lot of websites are already running these days, what is the striking factor which will draw the users to look for your website and who are your primary target groups?

Ans. insightVAS as an entity is completely different from other portals. There are websites existing in the domain providing information on Telecommunication industry on a whole. We distinguish ourselves from others as we are the one and only portal dedicated solely to the VAS industry devoted to become a complete encyclopedia on VAS.

7. Tell us something about the team and strengths of your website and how you plan to lead your particular vertical in coming times?

Ans. We are backed with a young editorial, IT, support and marketing team inspired by the contribution and advise of several big names from VAS industry under our Editorial Advisory Board. We have aspirations in minds and are clear about our goals.

8. The organization possesses a vast experience in organizing Telecom and IT events in India and it’s for the first time that it has come up with a website like insightVAS. Tell us, how you plan to manage the website?

Ans. I started my career with India’s first telecom magazine ‘Telematics India’ in the year 1987. Riding on that experience, I had it in my mind of coming up with an innovative portal for VAS industry. In future, we are also looking forward to a magazine similar to insightVAS. We have accomplished the first task and soon we will foray with magazine on ICT.

9. Do you think the Entertainment Sector will be beneficial for the future of MVAS? If yes how?

Ans. No doubt that entertainment sector will lift benefits from Mobile VAS in future providing if every content producer, channels and radio can reach their audience with a customized product catering to the requirements of their customers.

10. In India, majority of people do not own sophisticated mobile phones. How will you be able to reach to such end users and what are the steps you would take to make MVAS popular in coming times?

Ans. I really don’t agree with this fact. Recent studies indicate that in rural areas young people have more smartphones and they are blessed with higher purchasing powers. Thus, I foresee future of MVAS shining in rural areas.
