Noida: "Today the market has captured our lives completely. Even Journalism is not left affected by the pressures of commercialisation. But despite these pressures, the journalism has survived and survived quite well." Shravan Garg, Group Editor, Dainik Bhaskar Group, said these words in an informalget-together with the journalists, marketing, research and technical staff of India's pioneer citizen journalism web portals MyNews.in& MeriKhabar.com and media technology portal MediaMughals.com.
Mr. Garg visited Noida Sector 5 situated 'MediaGuru' office to meet young journalists and enriched them with his vast experience of 43 years in journalism. During the whole talk session, he put his reservations on various issues such as paid news, media ethics, circulation of news papers and state of present media.
On the issue of paid news, Mr. Garg said that it is not fair to blame whole community of journalists just because of illicit deeds of few people. He also added that in the context of paid news, only newspapers should not be compelled to stand in culprit box, if we analyse the content of TV news channels in detail, it also favours one or other corporate group.
Discussing about Media ethics Garg said that along with other sectors in journalism also morals have experienced a sharp decline. But, still there are a good number of people who are practising journalism with complete ethics and dedication. He said that in the era of pre-independence, journalism was based on morals, but during that time the goal of independence was in every one's mind.
Answering a question regarding threat to newspapers from Internet and other technical mediums, he said, "I don't see future of newspapers like this, considering the kind of mentality and approach of our society, the requirement of newspapers will always be there. In total, the circulations of newspapers have increased."
Garg also discussed about the launching of Dainik Bhaskar's Bihar and Ranchi editions. He said that the economies of both the states are developing at fast growth rate and there is enough space for new newspapers to grow. Bhaskar group will create its own new readership despite from penetrating into existing newspapers' market. |
