RSG Broadcast India Pvt Ltd. (RSG), a company that started its operations in 1997, stands as one of the entities that is credited to bring in enormous change in the broadcast industry of India. With a reputation to offer world-class cost-effective technology, RSG has pioneered in turnkey solutions, system integration, consultancy services as well as set-up for reality shows.
In a conversation with Media Mughals (MM), Sanjeeb Mekap (SM), Business Head for RSG Broadcast India Pvt Ltd. discusses this long journey in the Indian broadcast industry as a service provider.
MM: RSG was started in the year 1997 to bring in the cutting-edge technology of Apple to the sub-continent. How would you describe the success of the Company in these long 13 years? SM: We started way back in the year 1997, as you mentioned, with the just Apple in mind. The sole purpose was to bring in the Apple technology in India. This technology dealt with the desktop-publishing (DTP) with a combination of software and hardware offered by Apple.
In 2001, Apple forayed into broadcasting domain with its Final Cut Pro, the non-linear editing suite, which brought the revolution in Apple technology. This revolution was due to the provision of cost-effective solutions and delivery of value for money to our customers.
Today we stand as a service provider for Apple with hardly any real competition in the market and commanding maximum market share in the Indian region.
MM: What are the key factors you consider while delivering a new system or a product to your consumer? SM: To give an appropriate solution to our customers, the priorirty remains on providing it within their specified budget. The focus is also laid on identifying the exact requirements of the customer and then acting accordingly. In the end we are addressing the needs of an automated broadcast station.
MM: Apart from Apple, for which other companies you act as a distributor in India. SM: Besides Apple, Qlogic, Gallery (Sienna), Autodesk Max & Maya, Octopus6, Atempo, Spectra Logic, Building 4 Media, Digidesign among others are some of the principals for whom we act as distributor in India.
MM: Describe competition as a service provider in Indian market. SM: We are the only company that possesses in-house talent of skillful personnel to provide solutions for this domain in regard to the Apple technology and are not dependent on any mentor, manufacturers or parent company. We have no undue competition in the market, but just competition!
MM: What are the changes you foresee in the broadcasting industry in the near future? SM: Automation is soon gaining momentum and is expected to command a large share. For foraying in the broadcasting industry, the amount of capex requirements has eventually decreased with the availability of numerous products at an affordable cost, such as that of Apple. Further, with the growing challenges in the TV industry, it is being ensured that sustainability is maintained. |
