Harish began his career in advertising and worked with firms like the erstwhile Lintas and Chaitra Leo Burnett, before he set out on his own.
In 1987, he founded Nimbus Communications initially as an advertising agency. He shot to fame in the early 90s when he produced a countdown show Superhit Muqabla. Harish Thawani has successfully integrated sports, TV, motion pictures and digital content. Thawani used the experience he gained working for large agencies to set up his company selling air time.
Nimbus communications has four divisions:
Nimbus Communications: Two Sports Channels; Neo Sports & Neo Cricket.
Nimbus Sport International: India’s only global sports marketing and production company. It manages the rights of ICC cricket events, and recently acquired the next four-year block of Indian cricket from BCCI for $612m.
Nimbus Mobile: India’s leading mobile content services provider creating and delivering innovative content.
Nimbus Motion Pictures: founded in 2002 and has already produced three movies, including the award-winning Ek Hoti Vaadi. It is developing a number of Hindi films and is also working on two English films.
In 2005, he sold a 33 per cent stake in his company to private equity major 3i for $45 million, that means Nimbus is worth at least $135 million.
