MTV Networks appoints Mei Yan as MD, China

MTV Networks International, a division of Viacom Inc. has appointed Mei Yan to the position of Managing Director, MTV Networks China and Chief Representative of Viacom Asia Inc in China.� Based in Beijing, Ms. Mei will report to Indra Suharjono, Executive Vice President and Managing Director, MTV Networks Southeast Asia and Greater China.
Mei Yan assumes this position immediately and will be responsible for overseeing operations of MTV Networks’ business in China including the 24-hour MTV China in Guangdong, Nickelodeon and all of its brand extensions, MTV and Nickelodeon branded co-productions in the mainland, digital media and consumer products.� Ms. Mei will also be responsible for Viacom Asia Inc.’s new business development and governmental relations.
Ms. Mei steps into the position with more than twenty years of experience in the international broadcasting arena.� Previously, she served in a variety of roles within News Corp and STAR’s China operations including Chief Strategy Officer, Chief Representative and Chief Corporate Alliance Officer.� Prior to her time with News Corp/STAR, she was the Vice President of Network Marketing and Distribution for Turner International Asia Pacific, Ltd, relocating to Asia after ten years in a variety of management and journalistic positions at CNN’s headquarters in Atlanta. As a journalist and news producer, she was recognized with three Emmy-awards and two Cable ACE Awards.
MTV was the first global content provider brand to be approved by China’s State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (Sarft) to launch a 24-hour telecast, which reaches more than 14 million homes in Guangdong, as well as hotels and foreign compounds.
MTV China original productions are seen by more than 156 million people across China via localised programming co-produced with partners such as CCTV, SMG, BTV among others. MTV has also made inroads into multiplatform programming with content agreements with China Mobile, China’s largest mobile operator, and other digital and mobile platforms. |
